An existing software configuration management tool had to be replaced with a better one due to increased requirements.
One major challenge was to make sure that all existing data could be migrated to the new system. And of course we had to make sure that the new tool did meet the upgraded requirements.
All requirements were consolidated to a set of criteria and weighted based on importance. Several tool vendors have been asked about how their tool would meet the criteria. Results have been proven by practical tests. By summarizing all degrees of fullfillment for every individual tool the best tool with maximum points got selected. The team of GfKM consultants was able to re-use many of the experiences they made befor by creating and editing a study on "software tools for configuration managment".
